TLS traffic decryption in Wireshark

DRAFT — the walkthrough below is not yet written. Add your real steps, evidence and result before publishing. Never publish invented steps or flags.

Summary

I decrypted TLS traffic in Wireshark to recover protected data from a capture. The work followed the encrypted session from handshake to plaintext: understanding what was protected, what was available to work with, and how the stream was rebuilt.

Tools

Wireshark — capture inspection, TLS dissection and stream reconstruction.

Steps

Write the walkthrough in order: how the capture was opened, how the TLS session was identified, how keys or secrets were obtained, and how the protected data was recovered.

  1. Open the capture and identify the TLS session — fill in
  2. Locate the key material / secrets needed to decrypt — fill in
  3. Configure Wireshark to decrypt the stream — fill in
  4. Rebuild the conversation and recover the data — fill in

Result

Add what was recovered from the stream and how the challenge was solved.

Lesson learned

Add the transferable lesson — for example what this showed you about encrypted traffic analysis in an incident.

Network traffic analysis is one of the six solid fields on the coverage map; the next step is a home lab with live capture and triage.
